According to the evaluations of EduRank, the bilingual (English and German) GUTech University ranked 9,366th among 14,131 universities in 183 countries worldwide in 2026, 2,954th among 5,830 universities in Asia, 3rd among 41 universities in Oman, and 2nd among 11 universities in Muscat.
The German University of Technology is one of the private and international universities operating in the Sultanate of Oman in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University in Germany.
The history of the university’s establishment in Muscat dates back to 2003, when RWTH Aachen University in Germany considered establishing a technology and industrial university in Oman. After several years of negotiations, in August 2006, the Omani company OES took the necessary steps to establish the university. In September 2007, after developing four undergraduate study programs in Tourism and Regional Development, Urban Planning and Architectural Design, Applied Geosciences, and Applied Information Technology, the university opened its doors to local Omani students.
In 2010, GUTech established its second campus next to Muscat International Airport in Oman, which became known by the same name. In 2012, the number of students at the university reached 700. In 2012, it established its permanent campus in Halban, which won the award for the Best Commercial Building of the Year in Oman and the Middle East in 2013.
Currently, 2,000 students, including 300 students from more than 25 different countries around the world, are studying in English at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at this university.
The degrees awarded by the German University of Technology in Oman are equivalent to standard qualifications and are recognized by reputable and leading universities in Europe, the United States, and Australia. All programs offered by the university’s faculties are also supported and taught by professors from RWTH Aachen University and other renowned European universities.
It should be noted that at most universities in Oman, students can register for academic programs, take examinations, and obtain academic degrees electronically (remotely).
